For more than two years, a war, long simmering, in the Middle Eastern region was reignited, killing well over 150,000 people, creating nearly nine million refugees, and causing more than half a million children alone to die of starvation and malnutrition.
It wasn’t a war, but a genocide, with huge numbers of civilians massacred in the most heinous of ways, simply for who they were.
But rather than bring attention to this mass slaughter in Sudan, the fixation from news media outlets, so-called “humanitarian” organizations and activists, and radical politicians has been to almost completely ignore this indescribable violence.
Instead, these supposed defenders of human rights have attacked Israel for its war against Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, a conflict where Jerusalem has achieved a lower proportion of civilian to combatant deaths than virtually any conflict in history.
In so doing, these voices have shown that their concern is only on fake genocides, not real ones.
Video footage from recent days is chilling. They show jihadist militias with the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) shooting Sudanese civilians, and killing them in numbers so large that their pools of blood are visible from space.
Yet a cursory glance at some of Canada’s loudest anti-Israel activists show that in the face of a real genocide happening before their eyes, they remain shamefully silent.
Avi Lewis, a leading contender for the NDP leadership race, has railed against Israel incessantly on X (Twitter), but not a single time about the massacres in Sudan.
The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), one of the loudest voices against Israel, has been relentlessly obsessed with demonizing the Jewish State throughout its activities, yet the group posted just once on X about Sudan in 2024, only to defend a man charged with terrorism.
For commentators and organizations purporting to be humanitarian, their silence is all the more deafening given that the victims of the massacres in Sudan are Muslim, reflecting the reality that the biggest victims of Islamic terrorism are none other than Muslims themselves.
This overt hypocrisy has not just been relegated to anti-Israel radicals. Foreign Minister Anita Anand, whose condemnations of Israel since taking office have been nonstop, was pilloried for offering a condemnation of violence in Sudan without even mentioning the identity of the perpetrators.
Moreover, the constant scenes of mayhem, violence and radicalism that Canadians have been forced to endure for more than two years, as pro-Hamas mobs have enjoyed unprecedented protection from law enforcement and elected officials, have not been replaced by a peep by these same alleged defenders of human rights on Canadian streets.
When it comes to Sudan, the same voices who condemned Israel obsessively for its alleged “genocide” are nowhere to be seen when innocent Muslims are being butchered en masse and killed in numbers that dwarf Gaza many times over.
This disinterest on the part of supposedly humanitarian activists to condemn the Jewish State for a non-existent genocide while turning a blind eye to Islamic extremists killing other Muslims speaks volumes, not just about their own moral turpitude, but to how manufactured outrage about Israel has been built not on facts, but on the carefully constructed “genocide” lie.
