“Headlines & Deadlines”
June 22, 2006
Dear HonestReporting Canada subscriber:
For three years you helped promote fair and accurate media coverage of Israel and the Middle East. Together with over 12,000 other Canadians, you notified HonestReporting Canada of unfair media coverage of Israel and you responded to HonestReporting Canada’s media action alerts. Your letters to TV, radio and newspaper editors produced corrections, clarifications and procedural reviews in newsrooms across the country.
As editors and reporters were sensitized to your concerns, CBC acknowledged its reporters’ work “may be open to the interpretation of personal opinion or bias”; Radio-Canada apologized on-air for its use of inappropriate language; CBC’s documentary unit added context to a broadcast documentary about Israeli security checkpoints; and the Globe and Mail conducted an internal review of its use of photos and captions.
Over the past year, many of our subscribers told us that you want more frequent updates, yet you appreciate our policy of not bombarding you with excessive email. In response, we are excited to introduce a new product that we hope will answer your need. Today we are launching a new Web log (or “blog”) called Headlines & Deadlines, which we will update regularly with short, engaging and relevant items on Canadian media and the Middle East.
