Toronto Star Reporter Detained By Hezbollah

by Mike Fegelman

Star Mideast bureau chief Oakland Ross was detained by Hezbollah. He writes the following about his experience in yesterday’s Star:

"The ensuing 90 minutes of informal arrest were admittedly unnerving, but they could also be seen as surprisingly civilized, considering the lethal tensions now tearing at the fabric of Lebanon. The men who took me into custody were all members of Hezbollah ? the Party of God ? whose military forces overran much of Beirut in recent days in a show of bloody defiance of the Western-backed Lebanese government, before ceding authority to the Lebanese Army and melting away."

Ross was subsequently released a short while later and told to never come back again by Hezbollah terrorists.
