On March 2, The Globe and Mail published an article by Mark Mackinnon with the erroneous headline, “Hezbollah and Israel open new front in regional war,” creating the misleading impression that both parties chose to renew hostilities following the November 2024 ceasefire.

In truth, however, it was Hezbollah, an Iranian-funded terrorist group, that renewed hostilities by breaking the ceasefire agreement and indiscriminately firing rockets into the Jewish state towards Israeli civilians, in a show of solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Israel then responded in targeted strikes inside Lebanon against Hezbollah terrorists as a self-defence measure.
HonestReporting Canada filed a complaint with senior executives at the Globe and Mail asking for an immediate correction to reflect the truth on the ground, and we are pleased to report that the Globe has amended its online headline to more accurately reflect the facts.
Regrettably though, the following day’s print edition still contained this error, which we’ve called on the Globe to atone for.
