On Holocaust Remembrance Day no less, this antisemitic cartoon by Vasco Gargalo appeared in Portugal’s Sabado Magazine.

Entitled: “The Crematorium” this hateful cartoon used Auschwitz and Holocaust imagery to push the false accusation that Israel is perpetrating an institutional genocide against Palestinian-Arabs. The cartoon depicted Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu wearing an armband like that of the Nazis, but with a Star of David rather than a swastika on it shoving a Palestinian coffin into the crematoria marked “Arbeit Macht Frei” (work will set you free).

The cartoon is clearly antisemitic according to the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism which states that: “Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to… Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”
