As the January 19 ceasefire between Israel and Hamas drew closer, Toronto-based Newstalk 1010 devoted time to discussing the implications of the agreement, and what it meant for the war between Hamas and Israel.
On the January 16 episode of Moore in the Morning, host John Moore invited Ontario ophthalmologist Yasser Khan onto his program as a guest to, in his words, provide “some perspective” of the war in Gaza.

While Khan has visited Gaza, working in local hospitals during the war, he has a poor record when it comes to accuracy. He has falsely and baselessly accused Israel of “indiscriminately” bombing Gaza, of deliberately targeting civilians, and has signed an open letter which ignored Hamas’ widespread use of civilian infrastructure in Gaza for its terrorism. In the spring of 2024, Khan visited a Toronto-area Catholic school, where he used his platform to demonize Israel, and suggested that Hamas’ October 7, 2023 massacres were, if not justified, then certainly rational.
Given Khan’s devotion to the anti-Israel cause, his unhinged comments to Moore were of little surprise.
Khan made reference to the “thousands of Palestinian hostages” held by Israel, a total fabrication and a moral outrage. Unlike those kidnapped in Israel by Hamas on October 7, 2023, those who are set to be released by Israel are not “hostages,” but violent criminals and terrorists, many of whom are murderers.
Incredibly, Moore did not challenge Khan on this asinine statement equating Palestinian terrorists to Israeli civilians, including children, held hostage, instead letting his dangerous falsehood stand unopposed.
As has become an article of faith among anti-Israel activists, Khan repeated the “genocide” slur against Israel, an accusation which became so readily false during the days following the announcement of the ceasefire, when throngs of well-fed Gazans took to the streets in Gaza to celebrate their ‘victory,’ strange behaviour for those having survived a supposed genocide.
In contrast, survivors of an actual genocide – the Holocaust – were gaunt, barely able to stand, having been starved nearly to death by the Nazis. Khan’s abuse of the genocide term to promote his own agenda, and Moore’s tolerance of it, is more than an absurdity; it is hostility against Israel and its supporters.
For only a five-minute interview, the amount of disinformation from Khan was remarkable. He made the outlandish claim that “at least 300,000 people have died” in Gaza, amounting to roughly one in eight people. He offered zero evidence for his claim, an astounding accusation given that he not only gullibly accepted Hamas’ own unverified and highly contested figures, but then decided to embellish them by more than six-fold.
Once again, in the face of this monstrous disinformation, Moore said nothing.
Khan stated that Israeli operations have meant that there was been a “complete destruction of healthcare, hospitals have been destroyed and attacked and targeted,” adding that “there’s nothing left…everything has been destroyed, indiscriminately destroyed,” feigning confusion that “it just doesn’t make sense, what a university or a primary school or a refugee shelter or a playground has to do with anything.”
Whether Khan is simply ignorant of the facts or is willingly oblivious is unclear, but regardless of his motivations, the truth is apparent.
Hamas, a genocidal Islamist terrorist organization dedicated to Israel’s destruction, has weaponized virtually the entire Gaza Strip, converting it into a terrorist haven and a launching pad for attacks on Israel. It used schools, mosques and hospitals for its terrorism, built tunnels underneath children’s bedrooms and a large complex directly underneath the headquarters of a “humanitarian” organization, UNRWA.
But in Khan’s world, Hamas – which he failed to mention even once – does not exist; instead, Israel is a tyrannical power “indiscriminately” bombing Gazans, even though there is significant evidence to the contrary, and in fact, ample proof demonstrating that Israel has taken extensive precautions to minimize civilian casualties, far outside its requirements under international law.
Khan’s spreading of vile anti-Israel disinformation to demonize the Jewish State is nothing new. But there is no justification for Moore to invite Khan on his program to peddle his nonsense, and all the more egregious that he failed to challenge his guest on any of his demonstrably false claims.
