Hamas-Glorifying Vancouver Restaurant Tamam Given More Flowery News Coverage, This Time By CTV Vancouver

October 21, 2024

Tamam, a Vancouver restaurant offering “Fine Palestinian cuisine” and which glorified Hamas’ genocidal October 7 massacres in southern Israel, has gotten significant free publicity from local news media outlets.

On October 8, only one day after the biggest mass killing of Jews since the Holocaust, Tamam posted two images on its Facebook page, both depicting Hamas’ invasion of Israel, in clearly glorifying terms. On that day, thousands of Hamas terrorists (and countless “civilians”) carried out a murderous rampage in Israel, which Tamam, by posting those images, appears to be promoting.

But that hasn’t stopped multiple news outlets from giving free advertising to Tamam in recent months.

And now, in a news broadcast marking the one-year anniversary of those attacks entitled: “Vancouver Palestinian community to Gaza war anniversary,” reporter Yasmin Gandham compared how the massacres and subsequent Hamas-Israel war have impacted Vancouver’s Jewish and Palestinian communities.

Vancouver Jewish institutions have been targeted by violence, she reported, while Tamam’s owner, Sobhi Zobaidi has received mean phone calls and “online hate,” she said.

Tamam’s Support From Hamas Terrorism Ignored

Members of the public have been “calling us terrorists, calling us Hamas supporters,” Zobaidi complained during the report. And yet, at no time during the broadcast did CTV News’ Gandham bother to tell viewers why members of the public might be accusing Zobaidi of being a Hamas supporter: namely, his restaurant’s open glorification of Hamas terrorism.

Somehow, that central detail was deemed entirely irrelevant in the report, which then gave the extremely misleading image that Tamam has been targeted, not for glorifying Islamic terrorism, but simply for being Palestinian, when there is no evidence to that effect.

CTV’s Sanitized Portrayal Of Tamam

Gandham’s report is a flowery tribute to Tamam and Zobaidi, sharing that “he’s used his food to help people in Gaza” and that “the restaurant is filled with messages of solidarity for the Palestinian community.”

What exactly constitutes “solidarity for the Palestinian community” soon became clear, as footage in the report showed some of the posters inside Tamam, including an image of a keffiyeh-clad Palestinian alongside the caption “Exist/Resist/Return,” which could easily be seen as being a willful promotion of violence and terrorism against Israelis.

Once again, Gandham appeared unwilling or unable to note Tamam’s proclivity to promote violence against Israel.

Not evidently content to merely whitewash Tamam’s overt glorification of Palestinian Islamic terrorism, Gandham ended the report by saying that “pro-Israeli demonstrators demand Hamas release the hostages, while pro-Palestinian voices have called for a ceasefire and peace between the two sides.”

Beyond making her view clear that only pro-Palestinian demonstrations have called for “peace between the two sides,” it is unclear which demonstrations Gandham was referring to, since the anti-Israel protests she is sanitizing have been regularly scenes of violence, harassment, intimidation and hate speech.

On the very same day that her report was broadcast, an anti-Israel protest in Vancouver hosted by pro-terrorist group and registered Canadian nonprofit Samidoun (which was recently declared a terrorist organization by Canada and the U.S) saw the Canadian flag ripped apart and calls for “death to Canada.” But once again, Gandham portrayed anti-Israel activists as peace-lovers, and not as terrorist supporters, in a twisted inversion of reality.
