The pro-Palestinian echo chamber reverberates incessantly with the same factually incorrect core themes, reapplied. Living within it demands conformity to several rules, including, Israel is the enemy and the source of all Gazan suffering. Any evidence to the contrary must be wrong. Secondly, Hamas must not be mentioned – it confuses the message. Thirdly – delete all context.
On September 6, Global News broadcast a news report entitled: “Israeli airstrikes continue during polio vaccination drive in Gaza Strip”.

In it, Global’s Nathaniel Dove followed the pro-Palestinian script to a tee. He began by misrepresenting the extremely successful Polio vaccination program in Gaza. To facilitate it, Israel coordinates daily with humanitarian aid organizations in Gaza through a specially designated branch of COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories). Israel has been allowing 8-hour pauses in the fighting – daily – to allow for successful Polio vaccinations of all of Gaza’s children. On September 3, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that they had surpassed their vaccination targets thus far. Despite this, Dove managed to present it as Israel continuing airstrikes, whereas, for 8 hours a day, they deliberately paused.
An Anti-Israel Echo Chamber
Adding insult to injury, he choose to quote Khaled Elgindy, a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute, and a serial misinformer to boot. Back in 2015, he alleged that Israelis being stabbed as opposed to being shot at was “fortunate.” He didn’t ask them. More recently he has alleged that assassinated Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh was a moderate who did not want to destroy Israel. Clearly verifiable as laughable through the most amateurish of Google searches. On this occasion, Elgindy inverted reality with his allegation that Israel is only allowing Polio vaccinations in Gaza so that the disease doesn’t spread to Israel. His echo chamber membership has been rubber stamped.
Dove painted a picture of children suffering. He showed them walking to school through rubble, and arriving in a tent where their teacher, Isra Abu Mustafa, is remarkably teaching them. He lamented the number of children missing out on their schooling and Mustafa said: “Children have the right to education and to play and be free from fear.”
Dove squarely laid the blame on Israel. He can only do this by following the echo chamber rule: no context. Elgindy likewise painted Israel’s leadership as power hungry in not providing a ceasefire despite some Israelis protesting in favour of it.
The context that is avoided is the entire reason why Israel is fighting Hamas at all, namely the October massacres by the terrorist group, the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Even today, nearly a year later, more than 100 hostages are still being kept by Hamas in Gaza.
Hamas Seeks A Judenrein World
Hamas has proudly stated their intention to destroy Israel, and their passionate desire to make the “River to the Sea” Judenrein is in their charter and is part of their schooling of their children. Given extermination as an alternative, Israel has been forced into a defensive war it did not want.
But Hamas is a side show in the report. Instead, Dove blamed the suffering on Israeli airstrikes. He mentioned “an Israeli airstrike on hospital grounds, killing at least five. This mother says they thought they’d be safe. The death toll crawling to nearly 41,000 according to the Gaza Health Ministry.”
Hamas’s core strategy of hiding behind their civilians in hospitals, mosques, and schools is so well known that not mentioning it amounts to Dove deliberately misinforming his viewers. In doing so Israel is portrayed as the wanton evil enemy, and his viewers are drawn into the hate-filled echo chamber he inhabits. This is despite the significant measures Israel takes to protect Gazans, leading John Spencer, head of urban warfare studies at West Point, to say that Israel practices, “harm mitigation at a level that nobody’s ever tried.”
Additionally, Dove’s quoting of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry’s casualty figures is ridiculous. They astonishingly do not distinguish between combatants and the at least 17,000 Hamas fighters who have been killed. The figures have also been statistically repudiated.
Global News has done it again. It has produced a biased piece of Hamas propaganda under the guise of Canadian reporting. Just as Khaled Mashal, a senior Hamas leader, thanked the campus protests for helping them in May, Global News is helping to sanitize Hamas’ terrorism and make Israel the perpetual villain.
