Global News Gives Platform To Professor To Justify Hamas’ Murderous Rampage

October 8, 2023

In covering Hamas’ war waged against Israel, on October 7, Global News gave a platform to Professor Atalia Omer of the University of Notre Dame, who justified the terror group’s murderous rampage that saw the murder of 300+ innocent Israelis and maiming of 2,000 more, by claiming that Hamas’ attacks are merely an “expression of people who have been occupied & oppressed for over 75 years.”

This comment went completely unchallenged by Global’s anchor.

Men, women, children and the elderly were butchered in Israeli streets and were kidnapped and are being held hostage in Gaza.

Omer’s comments are repugnant and a fundamental denial of Israel’s right to exist as she regards the creation of the state of Israel as an “occupation.” In other words, the Jewish state has no legitimacy.

She further went on to claim that the Israeli “siege” of Gaza, settlement expansion and alleged “desecration of the Al Aqsa Mosque” were legitimate reasons for Hamas’ attacks: terrorist assaults that saw innocent Israelis summarily executed at point-blank range, had their throats slit, and who were killed in rocket attacks.

That Global News’ anchor failed to challenge their interviewee was beyond the pale and a flagrant violation of the news organization’s journalistic standards and practices which require Global hosts to ask challenging questions to interview guests, especially on topics of a controversial nature.
