One of the most commonly told – and re-told – media stories of the ongoing American presidential election campaign is the role of some Muslim-Americans in withholding support to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in protest of her positions on the Hamas-Israel war.
The subtext of the narrative is that the Muslim-American population, particularly in the ‘swing’ state of Michigan, could potentially tip the balance of the election.
Naturally, The Current, a CBC radio program hosted by Matt Galloway, with its repeated history of platforming anti-Israel narratives and guests, pursued this story.
In its October 24 episode, 22 minutes were devoted to Dearborn, Michigan, a town with a large Muslim population, and Galloway spoke with two locals. The town has been called “America’s Jihad Capital” by The Wall Street Journal for its extensive anti-Israel and pro-Hamas protests over the last year, though predictably Galloway did not share that with listeners, instead fawning over local sugary pastries with his guests.

The “Genocide” Libel, Foisted By Anti-Israel Activists & Given A Platform By The Current
The first interviewee, Rima Meroueh of the National Network for Arab American Communities, repeatedly uttered the “genocide” slander against Israel, a demonstrably false and indeed dangerous claim meant to demonize Israel, to no challenge whatsoever from Galloway. She spread the vicious allegation that children in Gaza have been “targeted” by Israel, another repugnant claim, which once again, Galloway let slide without comment or pushback.
During the conversation, she told Galloway that in her mind, much of the Muslim-American community in Michigan is a single-issue voter, saying “this is not a complicated issue… “they want to see the killing stop” in Gaza.
While perhaps unintentionally, the first part of Meroueh’s statement is correct: that the key to stopping the killing is not complicated, but likely not for the reason she envisions. If Hamas frees the 101 estimated Israeli hostages who have been kept in Gaza for more than a year, and lays down its arms, the war can end. But Hamas, dedicated to Israel’s destruction, has no such intention, a point conspicuously ignored throughout the entire segment. In fact, unsurprisingly, Hamas was not mentioned a single time by anyone during the program.
Hamas Ignored By The Current
The second guest interviewed by Galloway was Samraa Luqman, a local “community activist” and real estate agent who, like Meroueh, shamelessly repeated, as if on auto-pilot, the hateful “genocide” slur against Israel, while Galloway failed to offer anything remotely resembling a challenge, instead letting one of the greatest manufactured lies against Israel stand unopposed.
Luqman told Galloway that her community has been demanding a “ceasefire” in Gaza since October 31, 2023, a mere three weeks after thousands of Hamas terrorists – and other “civilians” from Gaza – invaded southern Israel and carried out a bloodthirsty rampage of murder, rape, torture and kidnapping, in the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, making no mention of the need to return the Israeli hostages or to ensure that Hamas could not carry out such a murderous campaign again.
In all, the genocide slander was uttered close to 10 times during the two segments, demonstrating that while Israel’s counter-terrorism operations in Gaza in no way resemble anything close to a genocide, anti-Israel activists have cynically latched onto a simple word in their crusade to demonize the Jewish State as it fights a war for its very existence against an array of Iranian-backed Islamic terrorist groups.
In recent months, Galloway has devoted huge amounts of time on his program to parroting anti-Israel narratives, while usually offering little to no challenge to guests who spout disinformation closely aligned with Hamas talking points.
The October 24 episode of The Current with Matt Galloway is only the latest instance of the radio program allowing itself to be a de facto advertisement for the extremist anti-Israel campaign.
