CBC Radio Gives Total Of 11 Interviews To Radical Anti-Israel Activists – In A Single Day

June 30, 2025

Hard-hitting journalism is supposed to be about asking the tough questions, and holding the powerful to account. Instead, much of the Canadian media over the last 20 months have become stenographers for Palestinian terrorists and gullibly lapping up anti-Israel propaganda from powerful organizations.

In recent days, a group of anti-Israel activists penned an open letter which called on the Carney government to take a host of steps to punish the Jewish State for its supposed sins in Gaza. And the organizers of that letter were given, courtesy of CBC, scores of interviews where they could push their agenda with little fear of ever being challenged.

Alex Neve is the former head of Amnesty International Canada, a virulently anti-Israel group whose words are treated as gospel truth by many Canadian media outlets, and on June 12, he was interviewed seven times in a single day by CBC radio outlets spewing anti-Israel disinformation about the letter. The same day, Heidi Matthews, who assisted with the letter, is an assistant law professor at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School (who has described Hamas terrorism against Israel “resistance”) was given a sympathetic platform to peddle her talking points, with little to no effort made by Canada’s public broadcaster to hold either of them accountable for their extremist statements.

Marcy Markusa, host of CBC Information Radio, spoke with Neve about a recent anti-Israel letter he helped pen. During the conversation, Neve repeated the “genocide” slur against Israel, an irresponsible and dangerous statement which was never challenged by his host. He called for Ottawa to help deprive Israel of weaponry, a ghoulish demand which would leave the Jewish State helpless in the face of genocidal Islamic terrorism. And yet Markusa, who has previously allowed her platform to become a dumping ground for anti-Israel propaganda, allowed anti-Israel bile to stand.

The same day, Chris Walker, another CBC host whose program has repeatedly featured anti-Israel propaganda, spoke with Neve, who continued to falsely accuse Jerusalem of “genocide” in Gaza, despite subject matter experts making clear that no such thing was taking place. Walker introduced the segment by referring to the open letter authored by Neve, which he said was signed by “prominent Canadians.” While some could be called prominent, though not necessarily experts, in other cases, that is a remarkable stretch, with the list including an assistant professor at Lakehead University, a fringe Reconstructionist rabbi, an associate professor of art history, a retired professor of African Studies, a “film/video artist,” and more. Most of the signatories appear to have no expertise in urban warfare.

Such details are apparently irrelevant to Walker, who instead conducted a fawning conversation with Neve, not once challenging him on his baseless accusations so outlandish that even Amnesty International was forced to redefine the term “genocide” in order to promote its agenda.

Not to be outdone, Ottawa Morning, another stridently anti-Israel CBC radio program, hosted Neve, where he spoke about the open letter. He made a dangerous and unfounded moral equivalence between the hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023, and the Palestinian security prisoners in Israeli jails, calling them both “unlawfully held captives,” and encouraged Canada to recognize a Palestinian state, a de facto reward for terrorism. The only notable context that was provided was when the host noted that Hamas is a banned terrorist group in Canada, but otherwise offered no challenge to Neve’s anti-Israel diatribe.

Neve appeared that day on the CBC program Metro Morning, where he repeated the so-called “genocide” lie against Israel and called for Ottawa to prosecute Jews in Canada who served in the Israeli military. Notably, in the face of this relentless attempt to rewrite reality, host David Common did briefly note that there has been no international body which has actually found Israel guilty of genocide, though it is unclear why the program has not hosted an expert who could help dismantle Neve’s claims.

No corner of Canada was safe from Neve’s dangerous inversion of truth, with CBC Newfoundland giving him a platform where he repeated his “genocide” slur multiple times, which once again the host made no effort to hold him accountable for his statement, nor even offer a scintilla of background to listeners.

The open letter appears to be the only news in Canada that day, with Craig Norris, host of the CBC radio program The Morning Edition based in Kitchener-Waterloo joining in the melee. Neve could have very well been on automatic mode as he repeated his unfounded allegations, repeating Hamas death toll propaganda and seeing no effort on the part of Norris to ensure that listeners received facts, not disinformation which helps to legitimize Hamas terrorism.

Julie Caron, the host of Quebec AM who has allowed her program to become a free publicity outlet for anti-Israel radicals, also spoke with Neve. Like virtually all her colleagues, Caron said nothing about Neve’s dangerous calls for Israel to be stripped of its right to defend itself, nor about his irresponsible “genocide” claims.

Neve wasn’t the only anti-Israel activist treated with kid gloves by CBC, with anti-Israel detractor and Osgoode Hall law professor Heidi Matthews interviewed on CBCL-FM from London, Ontario, where she was obscenely given an opportunity to vent her grievances on the air, and discuss the same open letter. During the interview, she repeatedly spread the “genocide” lie, reading from the same playbook as Neve. She called for the revoking of charitable status for organizations supportive of Israel, and called for Canada to help keep Israel from having the means to defend itself. No challenge was offered by her host, nor was there any mention made of Heidi’s extremist statements.

The same day, Gregor Craigie, host of the CBC radio program On The Island, based on Vancouver Island, spoke with Matthews. Like Neve, she stuck to the same script, but in a notable departure, denied that Hamas – an Islamic terrorist group that explicitly calls for the destruction of Israel – is the problem, saying “Hamas is not committing genocide; Israel is committing genocide.” Craigie offered no pushback whatsoever.

Based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, CBQT-FM also featured an interview with Matthews, where she repeated her unfounded allegations to no challenge from her host. Pushing the envelope of credulity, she spread the claim – to which she offered no evidence – that Palestinian children were being shot daily by Israeli troops. No acknowledgement was made about how Hamas has transformed Gaza into a giant military base, necessitating war, nor was any mention made about Matthews’ stated extremism.

Finally, CBYK, a CBC radio program based in Kamloops, British Columbia, spoke with Matthews. Like Neve, she stuck to her script, repeating the same scurrilous lies of “genocide,” and demanding that Ottawa issue and enforce arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister, which would be an unprecedented move for one democratic state to launch against a democratic ally. But the host offered no such critique or challenge in any way.

Neve and Matthews represent the power of the anti-Israel movement in Canada: given wide opportunities to spread their disinformation, rarely if ever challenged to defend their statements, all while anyone who disagrees is all but erased from public conversation entirely.
