Just days after Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) publicly admitted the presence of Palestinian terrorists and weapons inside Gaza’s largest hospitals – a story widely ignored in the Canadian news media – CBC News broadcast a report featuring the group’s complaints about Israeli security protocols, finding a way to erase any mention as to why those measures are in place in the first place.
In the February 23 broadcast, for CBC Radio correspondent Crystal Goomansingh interviewed Craig Kenzie, a project coordinator for MSF, where he began by claiming that 1,700 medical staff have been killed in the two years of war in Gaza. Although Goomansingh acknowledged that those claims came from the Hamas-run “Health Ministry” in Gaza, no mention was made of how the terrorist group makes no distinction between civilians and combatants.

Some of the “medical” deaths in Gaza include Faiq al-Mabhouh, a brigadier general in Hamas, as well as Shadi Diab Abd al-Hamid Falouji, who participated in the October 7, 2023 massacres, Mohammed Hani Atiya Daour, who led Hamas’ rocket and mortar squad, and Mohammed Issa Mahmoud Askari, a member of Hamas’ Northern Brigade Rocket Unit.
The last three men, because they were killed in a strike on a United Nations compound, would presumably have been counted as “medical” staff by Hamas – and repeated by MSF – despite having been legitimate military targets.
The focus of the report was that groups like MSF will be unable to continue their work in Gaza as a result of an Israeli security measure requiring them to share the list of their staff. Goomansingh stated that such groups “have been a lifeline” in Gaza (her personal opinion here stated as a fact) and shared that Kenzie described the move as an “expulsion,” without explaining more.
Beyond sharing that Israel says the move would “enhance Israeli security,” nothing more was told to listeners about why such measures were undertaken. No mention was made about Hamas’ use of healthcare facilities to store weapons and house terrorists, about the dual roles that many Palestinian terrorists employ, both being a combatant and having a civilian job, and how reviewing the names of staff could help prevent groups from being infiltrated.
Instead, Goomansingh stated that CBC News had sought a statement from COGAT, the Israeli agency coordinating aid into Gaza, but that there was no reply.
This is woefully insufficient.
Even without a reply from Israel, nothing prevented CBC News and Crystal Goomansingh from reporting Israel’s accusations of Palestinian terrorists infiltrating healthcare roles, or MSF’s recent admission of the presence of terrorists inside Gaza’s Nasser Hospital. As a result, the entire report exclusively featured Kenzie complaining about the security measures by Israel, and even going so far as to claim that there has been a “communal punishment of the Gazan population,” an allegation that was left to be completely unchallenged.
This is not the first problematic report from journalist Crystal Goomansingh.
She has previously used her platform to interview a US-based ‘humanitarian’ representative, who spread false famine claims, a theme she covered previously while at Global News, and gave an uncritical interview to an American commentator who falsely accused Israel of “indiscriminate” violence in Lebanon, without challenge, balance or even basic context.
Crystal Goomansingh’s February 23 report for CBC News featuring an interview with MSF staffer Craig Kenzie relied exclusively on allegations against Israel, and almost completely ignored any mention of the threat of Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.
