CBC News Gives Platform To Anti-Israel Member Of Parliament (MP) Claiming That Refusing To Recognize “Palestine” Is Tantamount To Anti-Palestinian Racism

On July 26, CBC News gave publicity to two pro-Palestinian voices. Both who used the opportunity to share a self-promoting strategy: they made demands and erased the alternate point of view.

The article entitled: “This Liberal threatened to take a stand over Gaza. Now she’s leading talks on anti-Palestinian racism,” written by CBC’s senior reporters David Thurton, and Raffy Boudjikanian, reported that Member of Parliament (MP) Salma Zahid had complained that the government’s anti-racism strategy does not explicitly include anti-Palestinian Racism. This is despite it saying that: “Palestinians are among the “racialized and religious minority communities in Canada” affected by systemic racism and also mentioning how there had been “unprecedented levels of hate towards Jewish, Muslim, Arab and Palestinian communities right here in Canada” since the events of Oct. 7, 2023.”

Salma Zahid Is A Vehement Anti-Israel Activist

But Zahid still proclaimed: “Pretending it doesn’t exist is not acceptable,” even though the anti-racism strategy clearly recognizes and addresses the hate aspect, just not the Palestinian aspect. She fallaciously combined the two, to accuse Canada of not recognizing racism, when in fact what she wants them to do is recognize Palestine as a country.

In the accompanying video to the CBC’s article, she clarified it further, saying that she wants the Canadian government to “recognize the state of Palestine” and that she continues to, “raise the voice of the Palestinian people.” Thurton and Boudjikanian failed to clarify the difference.

Dania Majid Signed A Letter Justifying Hamas Terrorism

The article continued to explore “Anti-Palestinian Racism.” CBC’s report included a video of Dania Majid, a lawyer with the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association. Untold by CBC, Majid signed an open letter in November justifying Hamas terrorism. Majid says of “anti-Palestinian racism,” “It is often employed in order to uphold Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid of Palestinian people and their lands… It commonly includes the denying of the Naqba, or Palestinian ties to their ancestral lands… include the form portraying Palestinians as being opposed to democratic values being supporters of terror or perpetrators of anti-semitism.”

The Naqba, Arabic for catastrophe, is a hateful term used to describe Israel’s independence in 1948.

While the article briefly noted that Israel disputes the “Naqba” version of the Israeli war of Independence, and includes a refutation from a spokesperson for a Canadian Jewish organization, in the video Thurton didn’t offer any questioning or context of Majid’s hateful definition.

Indeed, it does not dispute her assumption of Israeli “apartheid”, and when Majid went further, and referred to the period post-October 7 as, “Since the commencement of the genocide in October…” Thurton and Boudjikanian offered no context, allowing her fanciful comment to remain.

In referring to October 7, as the start of “genocide” Majid conveniently deleted Hamas’s October 7th brutal murder of 1,200 innocent men, women and children, often after abuse, including gang rapes. She neglected to mention the 115 hostages still held by Hamas terrorists.  She erased the suffering of the victims and CBC’s senior reporters were silent in response.

CBC News has again offered pro-Palestinian voices free publicity. Allowing public and inaccurate accusations of apartheid and genocide, and erasure of the largest massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust is unacceptable. Given that this is typical of the pro-Palestinian narrative, CBC journalists should be wiser to the problem.
