CBC News Broadcast Features Lebanon-Based “Analyst” Accusing Israel Of “Indiscriminate” Attack On Hezbollah Terrorists

Even in the immediate aftermath of one of the most extraordinarily targeted counter-terrorism operations in modern history, more news media coverage continues to frame the strike, attributed to Israel, in overwhelmingly misleading terms.

In a September 18 broadcast for CBC News entitled: “Second wave of deadly device explosions across Lebanon,” reporter Chris Brown – the subject of multiple HonestReporting Canada alerts – conveyed the news that for two days, “thousands of pagers” and “hand-held radios” exploded across Lebanon.

But beyond sharing that Hezbollah acknowledged that six of the 12 were their fighters, it was left entirely unsaid that the strike specifically targeted Hezbollah terrorists. Instead, the nature of the targets was left rather ambiguous, with Brown saying that “there were explosions inside stores and buildings.”

Pager Counter-Terror Bombings Precise And Targeted

Worse yet, the report then featured a clip from Beirut-based David Wood, of the International Crisis Group, decrying what he called the “indiscriminate nature” of the strike, has “shocked people in Lebanon.”

What went entirely unsaid, both by Wood and in the broadcast, is how the operation was arguably among the least indiscriminate counter-terrorism operations ever witnessed, and has been called “the most precisely targeted anti-terrorist operation in the history of the world” by Canadian-American commentator David Frum.

Indiscriminate means something done at random or without careful judgement, and yet to target electronic devices specifically owned and operated by Hezbollah operatives is the exact opposite of indiscriminate.

The context surrounding the operation, attributed to Israel but which has so far gone unclaimed, was also left unclear. Although Brown reported that Hezbollah “has been shelling” northern Israel, the most damning details were left unsaid.

Hezbollah: A Proxy Of The Iranian Regime

On October 8, in an entirely unprovoked attack, Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based proxy of Iran, began firing rockets into northern Israel, striking countless civilian targets for no reason beyond “solidarity” with Hamas, the terrorist group in Gaza.

This context could not be more important because it demonstrates that Hezbollah, unlike Israel, has fired upon civilian targets indiscriminately.

Moreover, when discussing the terror group’s potential next steps, Brown shared that “its leaders have repeatedly said they want to avoid a major war with Israel,” which entirely ignores that Hezbollah, not Israel, launched a war nearly one year ago and continues, nearly daily, to fire rockets into northern Israel at civilian targets.

Although Brown’s report features a brief clip of an Israeli woman lauding how “focused” the counter-terrorism operation was, it goes without saying that, in the eyes of viewers, her credibility means next to nothing alongside a supposedly reliable “analyst” accusing Israel of an “indiscriminate” operation.

No matter how precise Israel’s operations are, it will be criticized for escalating. Even after Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital of Tehran in July – killing only himself and a bodyguard – CBC News rhetorically asked if the assassination would “signal (the start of a regional war.”

Hezbollah’s leader has stated aloud that Israel was only created to put all the Jews together in one place, ultimately making it easier to kill them, and yet Israel, not the genocidal terrorist group Hezbollah, is once again framed as the warmongering villain by CBC News.
