CBC News continues to broadcast its documented anti-Israel bias, virtually on a daily basis, paid for by the ever-generous Canadian taxpayer.

In an August 13 broadcast of CBC Morning Live, “Israeli troops clash with Jewish settlers besieging homes in West Bank,” CBC News host Susan Ormiston – who has provided multiple uncritical interviews to anti-Israel activists, permitting disinformation without challenge – discussed the topic of a so-called “Jewish settler siege” in an Arab neighbourhood in Judea & Samaria (known as “West Bank” in Canadian media parlance).

And while the incident is real and worthy of contempt, with a small group of Israelis having engaged in harassment of local Arabs, and the Israeli army swiftly entering the area in to restore order, CBC News’ framing and language once again displays their consistent anti-Israel content.

CBC Presents A Disputed Claim As Settled Fact

From London, Senior Reporter Julia Chapman spoke with Ormiston about the incident, brazenly editorializing and almost completely ignoring relevant facts.

Chapman confidently told viewers that Israeli towns in Judea & Samaria are “illegal under international law,” a claim that is made by many anti-Israel activists, but which is strongly challenged by both Israel and international law experts, who point out that Israel boasts both legal title and thousands of years of habitation in the region, and whose claim is far stronger than a non-existent “Palestinian state.”

But rather than sharing details such as Israel’s legal rights to the area or millennia of presence there, Chapman falsely presented anti-Israel claims as settled fact, and in so doing, effectively presented a twisted view where Israel somehow had no legitimate right to be in its own land.

Palestinian Violence Is Once Again Missing From CBC’s ‘Context’

While Ormiston twice referred to a “Jewish settler siege,” and asked Chapman for “context” about alleged “settler” violence,” there was almost no acknowledgement of decades of years of Palestinian terrorism and violence, consistent with documented CBC News practice of overlooking Palestinian violence in favour of amplifying incidents involving alleged Israeli misdeeds.

As observers have noted, the myth of Jewish “settler violence” is dramatically overblown, and while there are indeed isolated instances of violence, facts have been replaced by a “well-orchestrated and lavishly funded information campaign, which has blown a marginal phenomenon out of proportion.”

While CBC News’ headlines loudly proclaim Israeli “settlers” as violently on the rampage, the documented truth could not be more different.

In addition to amplifying rare cases of actual violence – while ignoring studies showing them to be exceedingly rare – this CBC News report, as with so many others, almost completely disregarded the bigger picture entirely.

Six Seconds of Israeli Context in a Four-Minute Report

In fact, out of the four-minute broadcast, only some six seconds were devoted to actually offering any semblance of a balanced report, with Chapman stating that the “Israeli ambassador to the UN says that criticism of Israeli action fails to acknowledge attacks against Israelis.”

But six seconds out of 240 is not balanced in the slightest, nor did Chapman offer any introduction into years of Palestinian violence and terrorism against Israelis.

CBC’s Viewers Deserved The Full Picture

This broadcast featured Chapman falsely claiming that Israel’s presence in its own land was “illegal,” saying almost nothing about Palestinian violence against Israelis, and ignoring studies which repudiate the common claim of Israeli violence.
