Canada’s publicly-funded broadcaster, the CBC, has long shown media bias against Israel. Recently, the CBC radio program Information Morning – Saint John, hosted by Emily Brass, aired a segment entitled: “March to Gaza” on June 2 that was no different. In it, Brass interviewed University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Biology Professor Jeff Houlahan who, as told to listeners, “Is joining a global march to the Egyptian border to Gaza to bring attention to the lack of food and humanitarian aid getting through to people in the Palestinian territories.”
Listen now to the full segment:
Brass opened by saying that “the World Health Organization says after nearly three months of an Israeli aid blockade, Gaza is on the brink of famine.” She went on to ask Houlahan about the march. He explained that “the objective is just to bring attention to, there are still hundreds, maybe thousands of trucks lined up there, they’ve been there for more than 80 days now, the food is rotting inside while children are starving,” and further clarified that “we hope that pressure can be placed on Israel to allow food and humanitarian aid into the people of Palestine.”
Houlahan’s unchallenged diatribe claiming that Israel has caused a famine is cocreated without a glance at the alternate point of view.
The WHO’s claim of famine is likely based on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)’s recent prediction of impending famine, which – like their previous prognostications – never actually happened. Additionally, Israel noted that the IPC data failed to include the considerable levels of aid— especially food—that entered Gaza during the spring ceasefire.
Before the temporary suspension of aid for security purposes, Gaza had sufficient supplies for four months. Israel also stated that Hamas has been seizing aid and hoarding and reselling at inflated prices to fund its war machine, a point utterly ignored by Brass and Houlahan.
The duo also were disinterested in the fact that Israel recently unveiled a new mechanism to deliver food to those who need it, working hard against violent odds to bypass Hamas’s mafia-like tactics to steal it. This has been accomplished under the auspices of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) which has reported delivering almost six million meals in their first week, and plans to open more distribution sites – while Hamas shoots at their civilians who attempt to collect it.
COGAT, Israel’s department that organizes aid into Gaza, has complained multiple times during the war that numerous aid trucks were waiting at the border for humanitarian agencies, including the United Nations, to pick up, which they delayed in coming to get. Israel likewise accused the UN of preferring to liaise with Hamas over aid.
Once these facts are introduced, it is hard to know what this global march is actually protesting.
CBC News put out a video report and an accompanying article on the same subject on June 6 entitled: “A Windsor couple preparing to join global march to Gaza border to protest war”, in which reporter Katerina Georgieva featured a couple, Mireille Coral and her husband, Paul Chislett, who are going to join the march to Gaza.
Watch the segment below:
Georgieva explained why the march is taking place by stating, “Israel launched a military campaign back in 2023 after a Hamas attack on Israel killed 1,200 people. Since then 54,000 Palestinians have been killed, many of them children and with aid largely blocked by Israel. More than two million Palestinians are at risk of starvation.” This litany of inaccurate and skewed statements promulgated misunderstandings with her viewers. Israel is fighting a fight for its survival against a genocidal death cult that has refused all efforts to stop the war. Georgieva is quoting Hamas’ casualty figures which include the tens of thousands of Hamas fighters killed and have been debunked, including because they include natural deaths.
Georgieva likewise gave Amir Hadad, an organizer with the Palestine Youth Movement (PYM), a vocally pro-terrorist group, an uncritical platform. Yet CBC News has no shame in platforming them without even telling their viewers who they are.
The same day, the CBC radio program Windsor Morning featured an interview between host Amy Dodge and her guests, the same local couple, Coral and Chislett. She introduced the segment by telling listeners about the “carnage in Gaza,” and spoke to the two about their plans to go to the Egyptian boundary with Gaza to protest Israel.
Listen now to the full segment:
Not once did she offer them any challenge about their publicity stunt, nor ask them if they think their efforts could help strengthen Hamas. Instead, she implied that Israel could shoot them, asking “don’t you feel like you’re being a target by being all in one place?”
She allowed the two to spread the “starvation” and “genocide” lies unchecked, without any acknowledgement for listeners that these statements are controversial and without merit.
Not to be outdone, on June 11, Julia Caron, host of the CBC radio program Quebec AM, got in on the action with a 12 minute segment entitled: “Quebec doctor joining the Global March to Gaza.” Arguably the worst of the segments, Caron spoke with Montreal doctor Ghassan Boubez about his participation in the demonstrations.
Listen now to the full segment:
In her introduction, Caron referred to the ship that attempted to reach Gaza, which featured Swedish activist Greta Thunberg as a “humanitarian vessel,” even as it contained almost no aid at all. Caron told listeners that the subsequent ‘march’ to Gaza was an “independent peaceful movement,” and saying that the apparently insufficiently anti-Israel government in Ottawa is “why we’re seeing more grassroots organizations.”
Her guest, Ghassan Boubez, predictably accused Israel of “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing,” to zero pushback from Caron, who instead continued to legitimize the ‘March to Gaza’ stunt. Her segment with Boubez came just one day after a 14-minute segment which made an issue out of the expiration of public healthcare for Gazans in Canada.

CBC News’ coverage of the March to Gaza was uniformly pro-Palestinian, with not a shred of balance in evidence. It is an insult both to journalism standards and the Canadian taxpayer at large.
