Days after a father-and-son pair of Islamic terrorists gunned down 15 innocent people at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, accentuating the continued danger of Islamic extremism, one CBC radio program decided to devote a lengthy segment to promoting the immigration of Gazans, one of the most highly-radicalized populations in the world, to Canada.

The December 18 episode of Ontario Morning saw host Ramraajh Sharvendiran spent 16 minutes focused on the story of Waseem, a Gazan seeking to study at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.

Multiple times throughout the program, Sharvendiran told listeners that his surname was being protected “for his safety,” though it was never specified who exactly was targeting him, or why.

The segment opened with Waseem drawing an apocalyptic image of Gaza, saying “every day, infants die because they have nothing but tattered fabric to shield them from the cold winter,” and that “their only crime is being born to Palestinian parents in Gaza.”

This is absolute nonsense. While Waseem would have listeners see Gaza as some kind of a sub-zero wasteland, daily highs are near 20 degrees Celcius, upscale restaurants, stores and other shops are operating throughout Gaza, and Israel has facilitated hundreds of trucks – daily – into Gaza, bearing goods such as food, medical supplies, hygiene products, blankets, clothing and other materials.

The thrust of the program is that Waseem’s entry to Canada to study has been put on hold due to unspecified immigration delays, with him calling on the government to “hear our call and take urgent action.”

At no time in the program did Sharvendiran note that the importation of Gazans to Canada carries potential for serious risk to Canadians. Large numbers of Gazans support Hamas and its October 7, 2023 massacres against Israeli civilians, raising serious questions about their level of radicalism, and how terrorist sympathizers would be denied from entering Canada.

Moreover, despite the narrative of the program being that Gazans are being unfairly treated, immigration lawyers have noted quite the opposite: that there are insufficient safety measures in place to weed out extremists from coming to Canada.

The second half of the segment featured Sharvendiran speaking with Aaron Shafer, an assistant professor of forensic science at Trent University, who has previously promoted the concept of Gazan immigration to Canada in other appearances on CBC.

In his remarks, Shafer casually spread the dangerous falsehoods of “genocide” and “starvation” in Gaza, despite a veritable mountain of evidence to the contrary. Sharvendiran made no effort to challenge or correct him, or even offer a brief statement noting that Israel, alongside many other experts, vociferously challenge those allegations.

Sharvendiran has previously used his program as an uncritical platform for anti-Israel propaganda. In a March episode, he spoke with a representative from the hardline group Save the Children, who ignored Palestinian terrorism, and instead used their time to condemn Jerusalem for alleged crimes. He has also sympathetically interviewed anti-Israel activists accusing Israel of “genocide,” while ignoring studies which disprove those claims.

The December 18 episode of Ontario Morning saw host Ramraajh Sharvendiran extensively promote the cause of Gazan immigration to Canada while ignoring the inherent risks of such an endeavour.
