Majority of Canadians Favor Support for Israel

by Mike Fegelman

An Ipsos-Reid poll yesterday discovered that a majority of Canadians either back Prime Minister Harper’s support for Israel or want him to support Israel more strongly.

Of 1,023 Canadians surveyed, 45 per cent agreed that Harper’s position is "fair and balanced and completely appropriate," while 44 per cent said it’s "decidedly too pro-Israel and is not appropriate." The tie-breaker? Eleven per cent of respondents said Harper "hasn’t supported Israel strongly enough."

Ipsos-Reid issued the poll results with this headline:

But several newspapers inexplicably reported the poll results with this headline:

Toopro_1

Considering that the results showed majority backing for support of Israel, we wonder what these newspapers — the National Post, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette — were thinking.
