Joint Statement Regarding Stéphane Gendron’s Comments

Montreal, January 27, 2012 – V Network reiterates today that the network dissociates itself from the unfortunate comments made by talk show host Stéphane Gendron about Jews and the state of Israel. V Network would like to reassure the public that these types of comments will no longer be tolerated on its airwaves. Furthermore, Mr. Gendron made a statement on air today expressing regret for his previous comments.
To that effect, the administration of V Network will shortly be meeting with representatives of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and HonestReporting Canada.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and HonestReporting Canada appreciate the commitment of V Network to respect the ethical broadcasting standards and take note of Stéphane Gendron’s statement today. The two organizations look forward to meeting with the administration of V Network, which will also be an opportunity to address the important distinction between legitimate criticism of Israeli policies and the delegitimization of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.

Déclaration commune sur les propos de Stéphane Gendron

Montréal, le 27 janvier 2012- V a réitéré aujourd’hui que le réseau se dissocie des propos regrettables de l’animateur Stéphane Gendron à l’endroit des Juifs et d’Israël. V tient à rassurer le public que de tels propos ne seront plus tolérés sur ses ondes. En outre, M. Gendron a exprimé ses regrets en ondes aujourd’hui.
Dans cette optique, la direction de V rencontrera prochainement des représentants du Centre consultatif des relations juives et israéliennes et de HonestReporting Canada.
Le Centre consultatif des relations juives et israéliennes et HonestReporting Canada reconnaissent l’engagement de V à respecter les normes éthiques de radiotélévision et prennent acte de la déclaration de Stéphane Gendron. Les deux organisations se félicitent de la prochaine rencontre avec la direction de V qui sera l’occasion d’aborder l’importante distinction entre la critique des politiques israéliennes et la délégitimation du droit du peuple juif à l’autodétermination.
