Concordia University played host to an international conference yesterday designed to identify and counter the mounting threats to Israel supporters on campuses across North America. Entitled: “Israel on Campus: Defending Our Universities”, the conference was sponsored by the Canadian Institute for Jewish Research and brought together close to 200 academics, students, politicians, Jewish community professionals and members of the community to discuss the pressing issues of the day. Held under the “Take back the campus” theme, the choice of conference location was highly symbolic as the University was the site of the infamous 2002 riots where hundreds of pro-Palestinian rioters turned to violence and forced the cancellation of a speech by then former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
