Hundreds of concerned Canadians congregated near Ottawa last week to attend a conference on Iran. Entitled “Democracy in Action: Crisis in Iran”, the event was sponsored by the Canada-Israel Committee and focused on the Iranian nuclear threat, Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism and its human rights violations. Conference participants heard from a host of speakers about Canada’s role and what regular citizens can do to counter the looming Iranian threat. Speakers included Canadian and Israeli government representatives, human rights activists, democracy activists and security experts. Following the conference, attendees put the theory into practice by descending on Parliament Hill and raising the issues with over one hundred parliamentarians including Justin Trudeau, Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe.
