In the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder & Cornwall Recorder, HRC Rebuts Letter Writer Who Blamed Israel For Turmoil In Middle East

On April 1, HRC Assistant Director Robert Walker was published in the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder and Cornwall Recorder responding to a letter from John E. Milnes, who placed the blame for the turmoil in the Middle East squarely on Israel, suggesting the Jewish state is responsible for widespread destruction, societal collapse, starvation, the denial of education for children, and broader global instability.

Walker rejected that claim, arguing that Israel is not the source of the region’s instability. Instead, he pointed to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, and added that the international community has largely failed to confront Iran’s ongoing aggression, allowing it to spread violence and instability unchecked.

Iran is to blame

Re: “Constant killing not a solution,” March 28, 2026.

John E. Milnes offers a lengthy opinion piece on the Middle East, blaming Israel for turmoil throughout the region.

It would probably shock most Canadians to learn that Israel, far from being the hegemon portrayed in the media, is smaller than Vancouver Island, and home to only 10 million people (2.5 million of whom are Arabs with full and equal rights).

It should be pretty clear to anyone with a map that Israel isn’t the bully in the Middle East, it’s the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Since taking over in 1979, the Iranian regime has massacred its own people (including 35,000 people just in a 48-hour period in January of this year), funded an array of terrorist proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, and built deadly weapons.

For anyone willing to listen, Iran’s leaders have long promised their goal is to wipe Israel off the map. Would anyone seriously expect that Israel (or anyone else) would simply tolerate such threats?

For decades, the world has done nothing to stop Iran’s murderous aggression, and finally — after the Iranian people loudly asked for it — Israel and the U.S. are finally standing up to a murderous regime.
