In Hamilton Spectator Column, Save The Children Canada CEO Twists Reality To Suit A Radical Anti-Israel Agenda – All While Ignoring Hamas Altogether – HRC Descries In Rebuttal Commentary

October 29, 2024

The easiest way to demonize Israel and portray all its actions as villainous is simply to concoct a version of reality where Hamas does not exist and Israel is bombing innocent Gazans, apparently for no reason at all.

That was the picture depicted in an October 19 column in The Hamilton Spectator by Danny Glenwright, the CEO and president of Save the Children Canada, a group that has spread many groundless anti-Israel claims in recent months, all under the guise of being a humanitarian organization.

In a rebuttal commentary published in the Hamilton Spectator on October 24, HRC Executive Director Mike Fegelman called out the charity’s CEO for parroting Hamas propaganda and ignoring the terror group altogether.

Commentary From Charity’s CEO Twisted Reality

Save the Children Canada purports to be a singularly-minded group focused on helping vulnerable youth “regardless of who they are or where they live.”

But in recent months, the organization has transformed itself into a regular disseminator of anti-Israel misinformation, with its president and CEO, Danny Glenwright, having made indefensible claims that Israel has deliberately murdered Palestinian children and that Israel has kidnapped scores of Gazan children and brought them into Israel.

Glenwright is now back with a new ill-informed commentary in The Hamilton Spectator entitled: “The world is failing the children of Gaza,” published on October 19.

In his column, Glenwright made the eyebrow-raising statement that “Israeli attacks have killed more than 14,100 children. Meanwhile, 20,000 remain missing and thousands more have been maimed.” What Glenwright presented as facts are in fact unverified and in truth, highly implausible allegations from none other than Hamas, the Gaza-based Islamic terrorist organization, via its so-called “Gaza Ministry of Health.”

Hamas’ casualty numbers are statistically implausible, and in May, even the United Nations quietly halved its estimates for children allegedly killed in Gaza. But no groundless Hamas-created propaganda is too fanciful for Save the Children Canada, it seems.

Glenwright’s column pivoted between parroting Hamas propaganda and simultaneously ignoring the group altogether.

Not once in his entire column did Glenwright dare to utter any mention as to why there is a war in Gaza, namely Hamas’ genocidal massacres on October 7 in Israel, and in so doing, erased Hamas from the picture. Instead, he had the temerity to demand that Canada “suspend all direct and indirect transfer of arms to Israel,” effectively making Israel defenseless in the face of a terrorist threat from Iranian proxy groups.

This is hardly surprising. Only by first twisting reality – deleting Hamas from the narrative – is Glenwright able to make the claim that Israel is the villain. After all, if Hamas does not exist, then Israel must be perpetuating war, not to release the remaining 100+ hostages in Gaza kidnapped on October 7, 2023, or to defeat a terrorist group, but simply because it is evil.

In order to present this disinformation as plausible, Glenwright relied on half-baked disinformation, including his ridiculous claim that “systemic obstruction of aid means that the Israeli siege blocks 83 per cent of food aid from reaching Gaza.”

Despite the popularity by anti-Israel activists that Israel has been preventing aid in Gaza, there is quite simply no evidence for this; more food trucks are entering Gaza on a daily basis now than were entering before Hamas’ massacres on October 7, 2023, and even though more than a year has passed, there has been no famine and no mass starvation in Gaza, as on-the-ground videos have demonstrated time and again.

Gazans children, for 17 years, have been held hostage by Hamas, a fanatical Islamic terrorist group that has enslaved Gazans and kept them imprisoned. But Glenwright, in his latest column, appeared entirely disinterested in changing that reality, and instead has fixated on demonizing Israel, a far more convenient target.

Save the Children Canada fundraises off claims that they “help provide essential food and supplies to families in need,” but given their apparent aversion to telling the truth about the reality in Gaza, such pronouncements should be looked at with more than a modicum of suspicion.
