HRC Secures Correction in Waterloo Record

by Mike Fegelman

HRC secured the following correction in the Waterloo Record today:

"A Record headline on an Associated Press story last Wednesday was inaccurate. The story reported that a Palestinian rocket fell near the Israeli city of Ashkelon, threatening a fragile period of calm."

The AP report was given the following headline by Record editors:

"New rocket attack shakes Palestinian peace"

A casual reader of the Record who just checks headlines would have no idea that Palestinian terrorists fired a lethal rocket at the heavily populated Israeli city of Ashkelon, thankfully there were no casualties. Instead,  readers are left to assume that an Israeli attack has thwarted Palestinians peace as a result of an obfuscating headline which failed to identify the true instigators of this attack.
