HRC Rebuts Letter Writer In The Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal Who Falsely Claimed Israel Is Committing Genocide

On April 29, HRC Assistant Director Robert Walker’s letter was published in the Chronicle Journal in response to a letter writer who not only falsely claimed that Israel is targeting innocent Palestinian civilians, committing genocide and creating a humanitarian crisis, but who also called on potential federal candidates and Canadians to vote with Gaza in mind in the 2025 federal election.

Walker rebutted this letter, stating that not only did the letter writer completely ignore Hamas’s role in the conflict by failing to mention that it was the Palestinian terrorist group which started the conflict 18 months ago, but how the terror group continues to perpetuate all suffering in Gaza by not releasing the remaining Israeli hostages and by unconditionally surrendering.

Another side to story of ongoing war

A pre-election letter upon Canadians to vote with Gaza in mind (Voters Should Consider Plight Of Gaza-letter, April 25), writing that it “has become the site of a humanitarian catastrophe.”

The writer rattles off a list of alleged Israeli crimes, yet not once mentions the word “Hamas” the name of the Palestinian terrorist group which started the war 18 months ago. Nor did the writer use the word “hostage,” referring to the dozens of Israeli hostages still being kept in Gaza.

Make no mistake, the war can end in a moment when Hamas decides to end the war. Until then, Israel has every right-moral and legal to fight this genocidal terrorist group and to defeat it.
