On June 13, CBC News.ca published an article to its website which falsely claimed that Benjamin Netanyahu is against the two-state solution.
The article stated the following: “Bennett, who like Netanyahu opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, made little mention of the Palestinians beyond threatening a tough response to violence. He also vowed, like Netanyahu, to oppose U.S.-led efforts to restore the international nuclear accord with Iran.”
As we told CBC News, this claim is false. Netanyahu has repeatedly gone on record saying he supports the two-state solution, but that there has to be certain requirements for Palestinian statehood, largely security guarantees such as a demilitarized Palestinian state and that the so-called “right of return” is a non-starter for Israel, as it would see an influx of millions of Palestinians into Israel, known as a demographic ticking bomb that would destroy the Jewish character of the Jewish state.
After HRC’s complaint, CBC removed this error from this article. The statement now reads as follows: “Bennett, who opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, made little mention of the Palestinians beyond threatening a tough response to violence. He also vowed, like Netanyahu, to oppose U.S.-led efforts to restore the international nuclear accord with Iran.”
We thank CBC for setting the record straight.
