HRC Letter Published In The Edmonton And Calgary Sun: Hamas To Blame

On March 24, HRC’s Assistant Director, Robert Walker, was published in The Edmonton Sun and Calgary Sun in response to Shirley Olson’s recent letter which falsely claimed that Israel fighting Hamas terrorists in Gaza somehow constitutes “constant dehumanization of the Palestinian people.”

HRC pointed out that Israel’s civilian-to-combatant ratio is unmatched historically in armed conflict, with the Jewish State doing everything in its power to mitigate civilian deaths, and that this war could be over in seconds if only Hamas were to release all hostages, lay down their arms and unconditionally surrender.

Hamas To Blame

Shirley Olson’s recent letter makes the claim that Israel fighting Hamas terrorists in Gaza somehow constitutes “constant dehumanization of the Palestinian people.” What Olson regrettably does not share is that the proportion of civilian casualties in Gaza is lower than virtually any other armed conflict in history, and that Israel has taken extraordinary steps to protect civilians, though this is predictably rarely reported. Instead, Hamas propaganda masquerading as fact, including their fake death toll numbers, are repeated uncritically by news media outlets across Canada. Hamas is a genocidal Islamist terrorist organization hell-bent on the violent destruction of Israel, and they will never stop their war until Israel is destroyed. However, this war can be over in five minutes if Hamas releases the hostages and surrenders its leaders. It can do that anytime and yet has chosen to pursue endless war instead. It’s time Canadians point the finger at the real culprit causing suffering on both sides: Hamas.
