On November 28, HonestReporting Canada’s assistant director Robert Walker had a letter published by MiltonToday, where he noted the importance of how the town council recently defeated an anti-Israel motion brought forward by a group of local extremists.
As Walker noted, “Milton council saw through this transparent attempt” to demonize Israel, said that those “who want to help the Palestinians would do well to encourage them to jettison the extremism in Palestinian society rather than condemning Israel for protecting itself against that same radicalism.”

LETTER: Common sense prevailed in Milton council’s decision on Gaza motion
On November 3, Milton’s town council rejected an attempt by pro-Palestinian activists to pass a motion regarding the situation in Gaza.
Fortunately, common sense prevailed and the motion was defeated, but letter writer Ibrahim Baig suggests those who voted against it walked away from “empathy and humanity.”
Quite the opposite.
Two years ago, Hamas, an Islamist extremist group committed unspeakable massacres in southern Israel.
Israel, after tolerating the presence of Hamas for many years, finally decided to act decisively, and sought to degrade its ability to murder Israelis, a war that I believe was as just as any.
Rather than condemn Hamas and its allies in the West, those who pushed this motion sought instead to demonize Israel for defending itself against an ideology that seeks its destruction.
Fortunately, Milton council saw through this transparent attempt.
Those who want to help the Palestinians would do well to encourage them to jettison the extremism in Palestinian society rather than condemning Israel for protecting itself against that same radicalism.
