On January 17, HRC Assistant Director Robert Walker was published in The Waterloo Record in response to a letter by Gayle Cornell who spread misinformation, by writing that two young Palestinian women, who were set to begin studies at the University of Waterloo, were killed by Israeli airstrikes.
Walker wrote that there is actually no such evidence proving that the sisters were killed by Israeli airstrikes, outside of unverified claims from her family, which were then repeated by the University of Waterloo.
No evidence that Gaza sisters were killed by Israel
Re: Death of sisters in Gaza renew call for peace, Jan. 15 In this letter to the editor, Gayle Cornell writes that twin sisters from Gaza who were planning to start studies at the University of Waterloo were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.
The letter writer may be surprised to learn that there is actually no evidence such a thing ever happened, outside of an unverified claim by the family, and the University of Waterloo has not publicly shared any evidence, either.
Hamas is not just a terrorist group; it is a proficient disseminator of propaganda, and unless there is actual proof, we need to stop stating unverified allegations and falsely presenting them as true.
