HRC Executive Director In The Standard-Freeholder: Focus Anger On The Islamic Republic Of Iran

November 29, 2024

On November 26, HRC Executive Director, Mike Fegelman’s letter was published in the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder in response to a letter by Mohammad Talat Naeem which attempted to characterize Israel as the aggressor in its defensive war against Iran and its terror proxies across the Middle East.

Fegelman rebutted this false narrative stating that not only did Israel not start this war of aggression, if Iran ordered its terror proxies to stop fighting, this war would be over almost immediately.

Prioritize responsibility

Re: “Prioritize dignity,” Nov. 19, 2024

Mohammad Talat Naeem writes the only way to stop Iranian aggression in the Middle East is if Israel ends “the violence against Gazans and the Lebanese.”

He appears to be forgetting Israel did not start this war. Hamas, an Iranian proxy, began it on Oct. 7, 2023, with the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

The very next day, Hezbollah, based in Lebanon and another Iranian proxy, began firing rockets into Israel, unprovoked, in a show of support for Hamas.

Today, nearly 14 months later, 100 hostages kidnapped from Israel remain in Hamas’ hands. The war can end tomorrow if Hamas frees the hostages and both groups lay down their weapons.

Only two things will stop the violence: Iran’s regime telling its proxies to stop, or both terrorist groups being defeated.

If Naeem wants the war to stop, he ought to focus his anger on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
