How Charity Oxfam Canada – A Darling Of The Canadian News Media – Demonizes Israel With Close To 100 Anti-Israel Advertisements On Meta

When news media outlets have sought out a supposedly neutral voice on the Hamas-Israel war, they have invariably turned to self-described humanitarian organizations. These groups, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW), are portrayed as credible outfits which can offer a perspective of the conflict, but represent neither the Palestinian or Israeli perspective.

However, this is extremely misleading, for these groups have for years exhibited consistent and stridently anti-Israel perspectives, meaning that their humanitarian veneers have acted as a smokescreen for their radical agendas.

Oxfam is one such culprit.

The billion-dollar non-governmental organization (NGO) is officially focused on poverty alleviation, but has widely pointed the finger at Israel for the lack of development in Palestinian society, devoting enormous resources to demonizing the Jewish State.

Its Canadian arm, Oxfam Canada, is an eager follower in these same footsteps. The registered charity with an operating budget of more than $42 million dollars has appeared on countless Canadian news media outlets, blaming Israel and disingenuously hiding the presence of Palestinian terrorists from public view.

Oxfam Canada has also aggressively used digital media advertising to demonize Israel in our view. A recent advertisement on Meta (Facebook) launched on April 3 displayed a watermelon emoji (a symbol that has been co-opted by anti-Israel activists), alongside text exhorting followers to “stand against war crimes in Gaza.”

But a deeper look at its advertising has shown that this advertisement is just the latest in an incredibly long line of promotions by Oxfam Canada against the Jewish State. A previous campaign which ran until April 6 falsely claimed that “Israel broke the ceasefire,” alleging without evidence that “Gaza is being starved and suffocated,” an absurd assertion that has been made virtually nonstop since Hamas’ massacres on October 7, 2023, yet which has never been true.

Other advertisements by Oxfam Canada on Meta (Facebook/Instagram) have falsely and scandalously accused Israel of perpetuating “ethnic cleansing,” referring to Israel’s counter-terrorism operations as “colonialism,” and calling on Israel not to “starve civilians,” even as large numbers of trucks filled with humanitarian aid entered Gaza each and every day.

In fact, just in the first four months of 2025 alone, Oxfam Canada has run nearly 100 advertisements – just on Facebook and Instagram alone – exclusively focusing on Gaza, representing about 90 percent of its paid promotions on that platform. To say that suffering in Congo, Ukraine and elsewhere takes a back seat would be an understatement. Given Oxfam Canada’s near-total focus on Gaza, it seems that nobody else gets a seat at all.

According to publicly-available documentation from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), nearly two-thirds of Oxfam Canada’s revenue (more than $27 million in its last filing) comes from government funding, meaning that the Canadian taxpayer – willingly or not – is helping to fund the group’s radical anti-Israel agenda.

Despite Oxfam Canada’s stated mission to “build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice, focusing on improving lives and promoting the rights of women and girls,” the group has relentlessly served as a de facto apologist for Hamas by erasing the terrorist group and exclusively blaming Israel, often using disinformation.

Will the Canadian news media finally hold Oxfam Canada accountable for its extreme anti-Israel agenda, or will it do as it has done over the last 18 months, treating the radical group as an unassailable expert voice and ignoring its hostile fixation against the Jewish State?
