Health Workers Alliance For Palestine Petition Accuses Israel Of Genocide & Demands Ceasefire – Yet Makes No Mention Of Hamas Or Israeli Hostages Held In Gaza

It was less than six weeks ago that Hamas, the Gaza-based Islamic terrorist organization, carried out an unprovoked massacre in southern Israel, murdering roughly 1,200 innocent people and taking hundreds more hostage, in the largest mass murder of Jews since the end of the Holocaust.

But thanks to Hamas’ sophisticated dissemination of propaganda aimed at falsely characterizing Israel as committing war crimes, anti-Israel groups have piggybacked on the terrorist group’s lies in order to spread defamation against Israel.

On November 10, Health workers Alliance for Palestine (HAP), a self-described “organization based in the settler colonial state of Canada,” posted a statement titled: “Urgent Statement Against the Israeli Destruction of the Health System in Gaza,” where it invited “anyone working or studying within the field of health and healthcare across so-called Canada” to sign a public statement which accused Israel of carrying out war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The letter, which features close to 3,000 names (though many are students), makes manifold baseless and false statements, ranging from claiming Israel’s campaign “targets hospitals and other health facilities” in “indiscriminate aerial bombardments.”

Simply put, these claims are patently absurd and there is no evidence whatsoever to support them.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Israel was purposely targeting hospitals in Gaza, and in fact, the Israeli military has taken exceptional steps to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza, including providing civilians with extensive notice to leave areas of expected heavy fighting.

Hamas, for its part, actively operates from within hospitals, including using Rantisi and Shifa Hospital in Gaza City as a convenient cover for a subterranean military complex. A shocking video released in recent days has shown a suspected Hamas terrorist holding a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) launcher outside Al-Quds hospital. Hamas has also used ambulances to transport terrorists and weapons.

Yet nowhere in the letter did the Health workers Alliance for Palestine ever mention Hamas, let alone condemn the terrorist group for its declaration of war on October 7 or for its widespread use of Gazan civilians as human shields.

Scandalously, the letter accuses Israel of committing “ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people,” a claim that is both entirely unfounded and egregiously false. Genocide is the mass extermination of a people, which by no standards has taken place to the Palestinians. Instead, their population has dramatically risen in recent decades, hardly consistent with genocide.

The statement also alleges that Israel was preventing “medical supplies, water, electricity, and fuel” from entering the coastal territory, an undeniably false claim, given that hundreds of trucks bearing humanitarian aid have entered Gaza in recent weeks alone and Israel continues to supply fuel to Gazans hospitals, only to have Hamas prevent hospital authorities from receiving it.

If the Health workers Alliance for Palestine was concerned about the shortage of fuel in Gaza, their complaints should be directed to Hamas, which has been hoarding hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel for their terrorist efforts, all while denying it to their own people.

The statement alleges that Israel’s counter-terrorism efforts have caused the “loss of over 10,000 lives, including more than 4,500 children,” but opts not to share with the public the single source for this extraordinary claim: Hamas. The group, through the so-called “Gaza Ministry of Health” – in actuality a branch of the terrorist group – is the only source of all casualty data coming out of the Gaza Strip.

Not only is there no confirmation of the casualty figures from Hamas, but the group makes no distinction between civilians and terrorists, nor those killed in Israeli strikes or from errant rockets fired from within the Gaza Strip, as happened on October 17, when Israel was first accused of firing on a Gaza hospital, only for it to be quickly determined that a rocket fired from inside Gaza struck the hospital.

The statement calls for “an immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” but predictably makes no mention of the hundreds of hostages held by Hamas.

Any healthcare student and worker worth their salt must have a respect for evidence and facts, but for the signatories (see below) of the Health workers Alliance for Palestine statement, they have clearly jettisoned any interest in truth, preferring instead to add their name to a defamatory, falsehood-laden screed.
