If you tuned into Friday’s broadcast of CBC National, you might have spotted a rather embarrasing error made by correspondent Susan Bonner in her report about the upcoming Mideast peace talks.
Here’s what Bonner had to say: "To underscore the pressure on Palestinian leadership, Hamas, which controls the West Bank, immediately denounced the talks."

Of course, Hamas only controls the Gaza Strip, which in a violent coup d’etat it wrested control of this territory from the Palestinian Authority in 2007. The PA, run by Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party, runs the West Bank.
Chalk this one up to a reporter who doesn’t cover the Mideast beat, getting tripped up on the basic facts due to sheer ignorance. How this error got past trained editors at the CBC’s flagship program must be an embarrassment for the CBC.
