The Globe and Mail’s Mideast bureau chief, Mark Mackinnon (pictured) unveiled the first in a 3-part series equatting unwanted, countryless, and marooned Iraqis on the "risk of becoming the New Palestinians: pawns in a regional power play, flashpoints for sectarian strife and targets for recruitment into violence"
According to the report: ?A Shiite… was part of the wave of refugees that could be compared to the first Palestinian flight in 1948 after the war that followed the creation of the state of Israel. The new arrivals, he theorizes, are like the Palestinians who flooded neighbouring countries and sought asylum after the 1967 war."
