CP24 Focuses Sympathy on Death of Palestinian Terrorist

December 7, 2021

On Sunday December 5, CP24 devoted coverage throughout the day about a terror stabbing attack that took place in Jerusalem .

The report featured a headline that said: “Police kill Palestinian after stabbing in Jerusalem.”

It was concerning that CP24’s video editor wrote a headline that focused viewer’s attention and sympathy on the dead Palestinian and which did not clearly explain that the Palestinian was the one who had carried out a stabbing of an innocent Israeli-Jewish man. Why did the headline not state: “Israeli man stabbed, Palestinian attacker shot dead”? Instead, CP24’s headline obfuscates and misled viewers.

The script says the following which was orated by CP24’s anchor:

A Palestinian man has been killed by police after a stabbing in Jerusalem. According to Israeli Police reports, the video shows a man crossing the street when he turns and stabs an Israeli man several times. Then he runs toward a police officer who opens fire killing the attacker. The man stabbed was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has expressed his support for the police after this attack.”

Again, it defies logic for the ordering/chronology of the incident to be stated as such. A fair and accurate report would have stated the following:

An Israeli man was stabbed by a Palestinian attacker in Jerusalem today.

HonestReporting Canada has filed a complaint with CP24 executives calling for immediate correction action. We await CP24’s reply. Stay tuned to this page for future updates.
