Concordia U to Establish Canada's First Academic Institute for Israel Studies

by Mike Fegelman

Good news for the promotion of tolerance, understanding and cooperation: Concordia University will establish Canada’s first academic institute for the study of Israel, thanks to a generous donation from the Azrieli Foundation. The institute will invite research on a multi-disciplinary model into Israel’s history, languages, economics and sociology. It is hoped that the institute will foster better understanding between Concordia’s Jewish and Arab students.

This institute will likely go some way into rehabilitating Concordia’s international reputation after it was marred by protests against a planned visit by Benjamin Netanyahu.

No date has been set yet for the opening of the institute.
