Here’s an excerpt of his speech (emphasis added):

“My point is actually related to the, the Palestinian issue [is] related to [the] sub-continent of India. I’ll just give you a little brief, [the] history of our relation with the Palestinian issue is starting from the time of Allama Iqbal [Muhammad Iqbal, 1877 -1938, was a South Asian Muslim writer, philosopher, scholar and politician], you know, the greatest Islamic poet born in India… and he was the chief person invited by Mufti Amin [Al-]Husseini [Mufti of Palestine who collaborated with the Nazi regime] to address the Islamic conference (المؤتمر الاسلامي), the Islamic conference in 1931. At that time, he visited the places [in Palestine] and also Beit Al-Maqdis [Jerusalem], and so on. And he actually expressed his views in his poetry. And so, I’ll just give you one poetry, the translation of it. Allama Iqbal said addressing the people of Palestine: Oh people, your remedy is not in Geneva. Geneva means … the World League, a League of Nations [The League of Nations]. So, your remedy is not in Geneva, and not in London, because they are under control of Jews. Jew power are controlling them, and if you want to make yourself really to achieve your target you must discover yourself, discover your identity, discover yourself as a Muslim, as a Palestinian as a part of Ummah [Muslim nation]. His advice was actually was very very great at his time and great in our time as well.”

Al-Nadvi appears to be referring to the following poem by Allama Iqbal (Muhammad Iqbal) (emphasis added):

I know that your existence still has the fire
From the warmth of which the world is still benefiting
Your cure lies neither in Geneva nor in London
The jugular vein of the West is in the clutches of Jews

I have heard that freedom of nations from slavery
Lies in the development of Khudī and the joy for rising up so as to be counted

Al-Nadvi said Allama Iqbal’s advice was “great” then and nowadays.
