Big Bird, the Cookie Monster and Grover are back on TV in the revived version of Sesame Street in Israel. CBC radio’s the World This Weekend is featuring what could be a very thought provoking report on the comeback show.
According to the CBC promo: "Israeli children first encountered Big Bird and the other residents of Sesame Street in 1983, when the children’s television program first aired in that country. It was very popular – as it is around the world – but it hasn’t been broadcast for nearly a decade in Israel, thanks to a lack of funding. Now it’s making a comeback — both in Israel and in the Palestinian Territories. Sunday on The World This Weekend, Piya Chattopadhyay reports from Jerusalem that the revived show has undergone a transformation to reflect the changing face of the region."
Hear that report and more Sunday May 20 on The World This Weekend with Lorna Jackson, at 6:00 pm (7 AT; 7:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 137.
