CBC Radio’s As It Happens program interviewed Ghazi Hamad (pictured), a spokesman for Hamas regarding Jimmy Carter’s private meetings with the terrorist organization.
According to the program: "It was a big announcement — with a number of big "ifs". Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said yesterday that Hamas will go along with a peace deal with Israel — if it is backed by the Palestinian people in a free vote. This agreement comes after a series of private meetings with Hamas’ leadership in both Egypt and Syria over the weekend. But the deal Mr. Carter has secured is being met with skepticism. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has said the current administration is opposed to President Carter’s mission, since they do not approve of any talks with the Islamist group. And Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas doesn’t believe that this agreement amounts to a hill of beans."
