  • August 23, 2013:  HRC Secures CBC News On-Air Clarification: “And in southern Lebanon, Israel’s air force bombed a militant base. The Israeli Defence Minister said it was in response to a cross-border attack yesterday. Several rockets were fired from Lebanese territory and hit northern Israel. An Al Qaeda associated groups claimed responsibility for that attack on Israel. Now we’d like to clarify some information about that attack that we reported yesterday afternoon. At first, there were mixed reports coming out of Israel about whether the four rockets actually landed in Israel. Initially, the Israel Defense Forces said that it had intercepted one of the rockets and that the other three fell outside Israeli territory. The IDF later confirmed that three rockets did in fact land in Israel causing some damage. The fourth rocket was intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defence system.”
  • August 9, 2013: After receiving an HRC complaint, CBC News acknowledged it used “imprecise language” and failed to attribute a statement its anchor made which falsely claimed Israeli settlements constitute the “main sticking point” in Mideast peace talks.
  • May 1, 2013: CBC Issues Correction for Wrongly Claiming Palestinians Haven’t Attacked Israeli Settlers in Past 2 Years.
  • July 29, 2011: Apology “We want to correct and apologize for a mistake we made last Sunday. In one segment we said the Jewish Defence League is a banned terrorist organization in Canada. The Jewish Defence League is not on the Government of Canada’s list of groups or individuals identified as being associated with terrorism. We very much regret the error.”
  • June 14 2009: Report about the Hamas Anniversary in Gaza and the power struggles between Fatah and Hamas is accompanied by a video of Israeli military in Gaza, with no relation between the footage and the story. On-air apology and correction issued, stating “Israeli forces were not involved in the Hamas takeover of Gaza in 2007.”
  • June 12, 2009: Al-Jazeera English Reporter inserts his own opinion into a news report by stating that “they [Red Cross] officials have obviously been targeted” by Israelis. CBC Ombudsman report concluded this item did not meet the standards of accuracy and fairness within the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
