CBC Describes Hamas Terrorists as "Soldiers"

November 14, 2007

Hamassoldier Disturbing lanaguage was disseminated to a Canadian Audience by the CBC Radio program the World This Hour on Nov. 13.

CBC Host Marcia Williams discribed Hamas terrorists as "soldiers".  According to Ms. Williams:

?Now to Gaza City. Gunfire disrupts what was supposed to be a commemorative rally. Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the Fatah faction gathered to honour their late founder Yasser Arafat, but the rival faction Hamas now controls Gaza and its soldiers opened fire on the crowd. Six people were killed; more than 80 others were injured.?

Contrary to this CBC report, the claim that Hamas has ?soldiers? implies that there is an internationally recognized army operating in the Territories controlled by this organization. In truth there are only security service personnel who work under the auspices of Fatah, along with the various ‘militia’ factions representing the many terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

The term ‘Palestinian soldier? or ?Hamas soldier’ does not appear in other media reports and is questionable language to be used in a CBC report.

Why not Call Terror By Its Name?
