Canadian Arabic Newspaper Publishes Poem Praising Palestinian Terrorists

By: Mike Fegelman, Executive Director

Dear HonestReporting Canada Subscribers,

ShalomToronto’s Jonathan Halevy reports that a Toronto-based Arabic newspaper called “Meshwar”published a poem in its June 1, 2012 issue praising five Palestinian terrorists, one of them a suicide bomber.

The poem was dedicated in honour of the return of the terrorist’ bodies by Israel to the Palestinian Authority on May 30. One of the terrorists praised by this newspaper was Said Kamal Hanani, a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) member who blew himself up in 2003 near a bus stop in Tel Aviv killing four Israelis and wounding twenty-four others. The PFLP is designated as a terrorist organization here in Canada.

The poem described the terrorists as “pure” and “refined” and was appended to a poster jointly published by the outlawed PFLP and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) showing images of the five terrorists.

To read the poem and the full details about this matter, please see Shalom Toronto’s report appended immediately below:

Shalom Toronto has also reported that this local Arabic newspaper has supported a Palestinian arch-terrorist’s call for an intifada against Israel. Meshwar is distributed throughout the Greater Toronto Area (Scarborough, Mississauga, Markham, Toronto, etc.) and is estimated at having a circulation of 10,000 copies.

Lauding Palestinian terror against innocent Israeli civilians is an affront to core Canadian values of tolerance and mutual respect. There is no place for this kind of “journalism” in the Canadian news industry.

How You Can Make a Difference:

Glorification of terrorists has long been viewed as a practice deemed acceptable in Palestinian society, where terrorism is given legitimacy. Palestinian incitement against Jews and Israel by the Palestinian Authority is regularly documented by media monitoring organizations such as Palestinian Media Watch. To see Palestinian terror praised in a local Canadian newspaper which is readily available for distribution and consumption is both alarming and abhorrent. We encourage you to do your part by calling on this newspaper to issue a public apology. Please refer to the poem entitled “The Convoy of the Pure” published on June 1 and send your considered comments to Meshwar Editor Nazih Khatatba at:
