  • CBC, May 2 2008: CBC Radio report incorrectly referred to “the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Occupied Territories” According to Esther Enkin, Executive Editor, CBC “Of course, the conflict – a sad result of which was found in the report immediately preceding this one – is between Israel and those living in the Occupied Territories or Israel and the Palestinians, as you suggest, or, in a more accurately, Israelis and Palestinians.
  • CBC, May 2 2008: CBC Radio report incorrectly referred to Khalil al-Haya as a former leader of Hamas. According to Esther Enkin, Executive Editor, CBC “You are right, Khalil is a senior Hamas Palestinian legislative council member and current Hamas political leader.”
  • CBC, May 2 2008: A CBC Radio report erroneously stated that Hezbollah’s reclusive leader Hassan Nasrallah made a rare appearance at Imad Mughniyah’s funeral. While, in fact, he delivered a videotaped message. According to Esther Enkin, Executive Editor, CBC “While the story was accurate in saying he appeared at the funeral – if only electronically – I agree it would have been clearer had it said he had appeared on video.”
  • CBC, The World This Hour, Jan 17 2008: CBC Radio’s The World This Hour Apology – According to Esther Enkin, acting Editor-in-Chief: “On November 13, you wrote concerning “erroneous information” in a story on the November 12 edition of THE WORLD THIS HOUR. The story said “Hamas …soldiers opened fire….” You wrote that the terms “’Palestinian soldier’ or ‘Hamas soldier’” are questionable language implying that “there is an internationally recognized army …controlled by this organization” when there are only security service personnel and various militia factions. Nevertheless, CBC News stories typically refer to members of the Hamas military wing as “militants” or “fighters” and that more consistent usage might have made this story clearer.”
